Special Report:  Kidney Stones Effective Natural Integrative Cures

Introduction

Thanks for taking the time to visit and read this page.  It may be the most important information you find, because it is understandable, explains what you may have and balances natural alternative and mainstream treatment options.

Let’s start with what this report is NOT.  It’s not a bunch of hype and B.S. and a “one-size-fits-all” “cure everything” solution.  It’s also not based on random musings and pseudo-science  ramblings about stuff that can’t possibly work.

The report gives you an idea of what might be wrong with you, what you need to watch out for,  some immediate natural solutions you can try which actually are plausible and carry PROOf behind them.  It also tells you a bit about mainstream options and why you need to consider the best of those too.

What Are Kidney Stones and Is It Something I Did??

Kidney stones are not a new phenomenon since they have affected men and women dating back 7000 years. They have even been uncovered in Egyptian mummies! So this is not strictly a dietary or environmental issue that has come up recently with today’s foods. On the other hand, how often these occur are certainly related to differences in specific dietary patterns.

First of all, let me say that I feel your pain.  I write this not only as a doctor, but also as someone who has had several bouts of very painful kidney stones.  When I had my first episode some 8 years ago, I thought I was dying and some wickedly horrible thing was going on inside me.  The second time was about 5 years go where I did not really follow my own advice. Since I adopted the strategies in this report, I have not had problems for over 5 years.  That’s not to say that it might not happen again, but I am confident that the information in this report can help you learn how to  minimize the chances of getting kidney stones for most people and help get rid of pain as quickly as possible. However, as I emphasize in everything I write, you should discuss everything with your doctor before trying anything.

Although some stones are more common than others, it is important to know exactly what you have because the treatment can be significantly different. So before you go skipping ahead to learn about treatment options, it is far better to find out how they form, how they are tested for and which ones you are most likely to have. You will also find out that the best way to do this is to have your physician evaluate all these factors. In some cases, if the stones that you have passed are available, it is reasonable to analyze them in a lab.

If you have passed a stone, isn’t it over? Unfortunately, the answer is NO. Most people will have a recurrence. I did. Because of this, it is important to know what you have to do to prevent it from happening again.

Kidney stones are caused by a combination of genetic, nutritional and environmental factors. What? Did I say genetic? Does that mean you can inherit stones? Of course not, but there are genetic reasons for how you  handle minerals that pass through you and sometimes, for some reason, these processes of absorbing and metabolizing them can go  haywire.

Kidney stones, also known as renal calculi, nephrocalcinosis or nephrolithiasis, are crystal-like substances or stones found inside the kidneys or urinary tract. The kidney secretes them from various waste products and/or minerals in your urine.  The key to treatment is to learn what kind of minerals are over-accumulating and what processes are not working properly in you.

Contributing Factors

As mentioned before, kidney stones are either metabolic in nature or environmental, or a combination of both. What does this really mean?  Basically, what you take in or “make” in your body through metabolism eventually goes out largely through your kidneys.  In that regard, a LOT of what happens in terms of prevention and treatment of kidney stones is strongly related to the type and quantity of fluids, foods and supplements you take in.

Anatomy of the kidney and various malformations also has something to do with stone formation, but there is very little you can do about this.  However, it is important to know if you have these abnormalities because it will make a BIG difference in how hard it will be to keep stones from coming back.

What you CAN do something about is  related to what you eat and drink.  The most common types of stones are based on calcium, and comprise about 75% of all stones.  Hypercalciuria or too much calcium in the urine is the main problem. Calcium solidifies into crystals and forms stones when there is too much of it in the urine (i.e. the urine is supersaturated with calcium). The presence of too much calcium deactivates the function of stone inhibitors in the system like magnesium, citrate, amino acids and trace metals.  Does this mean you should not eat or drink anything with calcium?  This seems like the right thing and is even recommended by many so-called “experts” on the internet, but this is WAY the WRONG thing to do and will hurt you because calcium is essentional not only for your bones but also for a zillion biochemical processes that go on in the  trillions of cells that make up your body.

Exactly what nutrients and minerals you should limit or increase, whether these are in your diet or in supplement form, how acidic or basic you should keep your urine, and other things ALL depend exactly what type of calcium subtype stones or non-calcium stones  you actually have.  This is where the “one-size-fits-all” cures are totally off base.  You are a human being with very specific issues and possibly some medical conditions which are contributing to your stone formation.  You are NOT a plastic widget that is fixable with one type of glue or approach.  This is VERY important to realize.  How do you know?  Well, there are some tests that can help and working with a trusted doctor is the best approach here.  Read on….

Tests you might need

Knowing the type of kidney stones one has is a step towards treatment. These tests may include the following:

  • Urinalysis – includes checking of pus, blood, bacteria in the urine
  • Urine culture if an infection is found on urinalysis to determine EXACTLY which bacteria species is responsible so the right antibiotic can be prescribed
  • 24 hour urine to check other factors and determine levels of calcium, cystine, magnesium, phosphorous, uric acid, oxalate and citrate.
  • Blood test to check kidney function, calcium and uric acid levels, AND specific blood tests to check for other medical conditions or diseases like hyperparathyroidism
  • Ultrasound is a test that will use sound waves to check the kidney for obstruction (by stones) and/or stone presence itself
  • Spiral CT scan is a type of x-ray that uses a computer to take very accurate images of the kidney.

Best overall treatment strategies

Before we get into what works, let me spend a moment on what is hype and garbage out there that will only waste your time.  Hopefully you found this site before wasting money on some of these.  Here is why you should NOT consider the following “cures”:

  • The “Coke and Asparagus” Cure:

It proposed that the phosphoric acid content in the soda, which can supposedly clean engines and melt steel nails outside the body, goes right into the urine and the acid melts the stones.  The mild diuretic effect of the asparagine in the asparagus then flushes it all away.  The only part about this that is true, is that asparagine is a mild diuretic.  But if you look around, there are far better natural diuretics.

Here is the problem with the phosphoric acid idea.  It is true that phosphoric acid is pretty strong, WHEN it is concentrated WAY beyond what is found in sodas. Otherwise, think about it.  If you drank acid strong enough to melt steel, you would severely burn everything from your mouth on down and die.  Also, if the acid were that concentrated and powerful in the soda bottles or cans, it would eat right through them. In addition, we covered a bit about metabolism and processing in this report.  By the time anything you drink or eat, like phosphoric acid, reaches the urine it has been converted and metabolized to various chemical forms and pieces MANY MANY times.  Don’t fall for it  and take in massive amounts of otherwise useless and harmful soda components, even if it is for a short time period.

  • Jump or Gravity Therapy:

When you are passing a stone, you may feel better being upright or curled up like a ball in fetal position, or moving around.  Generally, changing positions may help somewhat in terms of gravity and assisting your body in eliminating the stones. How much this may help is totally speculative. No one knows for sure. However, based on how the body passes stones, which we have already covered, jumping up and down will not add much.  I mention this because this is another “popular” recommendation on the internet.   The stones are simply not heavy enough to somehow be jarred loose within the ureter in order to pass faster.

You MAY jar some additional stones loose from your kidney’s collecting system, which will then fall into the ureteral area, guaranteeing yourself MORE pain as more stones try to pass.  Get checked out by your doc first with an ultrasound before your attempts to help yourself do more harm than good. It may be a better idea to dissolve or disrupt larger stones into smaller stones, using techniques discussed later in the mainstream treatment area, before trying to pass them.

What are the main natural treatment options?

When you are passing the stone and in pain, it is not the time to think about fancy hyped up solutions and various potions and lotions.  The basic problem with so called popular and marketed “solutions” out there  is this. They are proposed to work as if they go straight to your kidney from your mouth without undergoing any change.  So you will see statements like this oil or that goes to your kidney and “gently lubricates the kidney” so the stone passes.  Or, this potion or that goes to your kidney and “dissolves” the stones within minutes or hours.  Amazing ! Right?  Well pull out your B.S. Meter and tune it up.  Your body simply does not work that way.   Between your mouth and kidney there is no simple plastic pipe such that what you drink or eat simply pops into your kidney and urine  unchanged. Between your mouth and your urine anything you take in undergoes thousands of metabolic reactions as your body does the work it is designed to do.   By the time it reaches the urine it is a completely different biochemical substance in most cases.

So, even though there are a lot more details to this, the following are some basic truths:

  • Fluids: While there is some debate, drinking tons of fluids to the point of getting nauseated and  sick does not work very well, but some flushing may help
  • Diuretics:  both natural and prescription “water pills” may help gently move the stones along
  • Alpha and Calcium Channel Blockers:  both natural and prescription options work quite well to accelerate stone passage
  • Pain control:  there is a lot of evidence for acupuncture, acupressure, electrical stimulation therapy (TENS),  oral natural and non-narcotic anti-inflammatory and pain meds, and various baths and poultices that help tide you through the miserable experience

Best overall prevention strategies:

There is a LOT more to this than the following, which only scratches the surface.  However, since you are most likely to get another stone it is important to AT LEAST do the following and pay attention to details.  What the best prevention plan is depends on the type of stones you have. Here are the basics:

  • Fluids: For prevention, as opposed to treatment when you are passing a stone, water is crucial.  But what kind of fluids might be better and  what kind of water?  This depends on the type of stones you have and whether or not you should be keeping your urine acidic or not. Also, there are a bunch of “experts” out there who will tell you that taking distilled water is the way to go.  This is old-school and not the best for you, because taking too much calcium is not the problem. Also, some juices can actually INCREASE your risk of stone formation.  It all depends upon what type of stones you have and want to prevent.
  • Natural diuretics:  there are numerous teas, like certain black, green and parsley teas.
  • Diet:  What type of diet you should be on really depends upon what type of stones you had and want to prevent.  The most common type of stone is Calcium-oxalate and for this, there are a number of options.  However, here is a tip.  If you take in a DASH diet, which is basically a low sodium anti-hypertension diet, you will be well on your way to prevent most stones.

You are reading this because you wanted natural options.  Just to set the record straight, you can do a LOT with natural methods. BUT in some cases you need mainstream medical help. This includes being pregnant, possibly having medical conditions that need treatment, and more.  Don’t let anyone fool you. There are a lot of very helpful non surgical treatments that can help  you get rid of and prevent stones.  I’m not going to go into detail on this page, but if you want to learn the balanced truth about your options, consider my additional materials and reports.

I want to make a special point about working with your doctor.  You may have medical conditions and you may have stones that are more serious than you realize.  Even if you are interested in natural approaches you should be completely evaluated and tested.  You will have less pain and pass the stone(s) much quicker if you use all options available to you, and this may include mainstream options.  Don’t worry, the first step is NOT surgery these days in 99% of cases.  Don’t suffer.  Find a good doc and work with them.

I hope this helped you.  You should now understand that kidney stones are NOT all the same and the best treatment and prevention strategies depend on the stone type as well as possible details that are specific to  you as an individual. If you want to be further prepared for talking with your trusted doctor and preparing for lifestyle changes, consider my more extensive report,  Kidney Stones: Effective Cures, which goes into MUCH more detail about natural and mainstream options.

By the way, don’t simply take my word for it.  This  report comes packaged with over 100 scientific references that back up what is covered. If it isn’t in there as a natural therapy option, it doesn’t work.
